Other Tutoring Tips

How to make the most of your tutoring session.

Visit early in the semester.  If you get too far behind, you may not be able to catch up.

Do your prep work and come prepared. Read your textbook and do as much of your assignment as you can.  Mark those items that you need help with and write down questions that you have for the tutor.

Have a copy of your original assignment available for the tutor to refer to.

Bring your class notes and syllabus.

Arrive in plenty of time to receive help. Tutors may not be able to proofread assignments the day they are due.

Be aware of the tutoring schedule and location to ensure that you arrive in time to get the help you need.

What can a tutor help me with?

Refining a writing assignment.

Improving reading comprehension.

Understanding and solving math problems.

Explaining concepts from your class.

Locating online resources that may provide additional help.

What will a tutor NOT do?

Tutors will not complete your assignment for you.  Nor will they help you with take-home tests.

Tutors also cannot guarantee that you will get a better grade simply by attending a tutoring session.
